In Bihar, campaigning is on the peak for the assembly elections in the sate. AIR correspondent reports that star campaigners of different political parties are addressing a series of meeting to woo the voters. Forty seven seats will go to poll on the 21st of this month in a six-phased elections in the state. The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh while addressing an election rally at Narpatganj at Araria district on Saturday charged the Bihar Government with failure to implement Centre's special schemes for minorities. He also lamented that poor people are not getting the benefits of other welfare schemes like MNREGA, due to irresponsible attitude of the Nitish Kumar led NDA government. The State was given 1,000 Crore rupees per year since 2004 under the special package. Dr Singh said, for the last 20 years, the voters in Bihar had elected non-Congress governments and they had done very little to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people. He said, voters should also take into account the fact that Bihar still remains backward, while other states have made considerable progress. On the other hand the BJP has questioned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's claim at an election rally that funds provided by the Centre were not utilised by the state government for development. Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad, however, asked the PM not to mislead the people by saying that funds provided by the Centre are not used by the state government for the development of the people. He said the PM says something and the Planning Commission appreciates the Bihar government for its growth rate and its proper use of funds allocated for various development sectors. So, who should be believed he asked.Mr. Prasad also added that “it is one thing for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to be making such false claims, since we have no expectations from him. But, the PM should not be indulging in such war of words and misleading people”.On the issue of central aid, Prasad said, “the Centre has not provided for any special funds and obliged Bihar, but it has only passed on the money that rightfully belongs to the people, in the manner that it is goes to every state from the Centre.”AIR correspondent reports that besides BJP other political parties have also reacted on PMs speech.
