Campaigning has reached a feverish pitch with polling for the first phase of Assembly elections just 10 days away. Political leaders are making all efforts to woo the voters to get their votes for their party candidates. Congress General secretary Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Unnao critical both ruling BSP and Samjawadi Party for ignoring common people and their problems in the state. BJP leader Kalraj Mishra addressed a meeting in Kaushambi promising welfare schemes for the people. BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra and Rashtriya Lokmanch leader Amar Singh also addressed public gatherings seeking support for their party candidates in Mau district. The notification for fifth phase of elections has been issued while nomination for third phase ended yesterday. Scrutiny of papers will take place tomorrow and election in this phase will be held on the 15th of next month in 56 assembly constituencies. A total of 1,135 candidates have filed their nominations.. For the fourth phase 208 candidates have filed their nominations so far. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has directed concerned district returning officers for lodging complaints against 11 persons, including aspiring candidates of different major political parties who have been shown by an electronic channel in a sting operation seeking money from corporates to meet their election expenditure. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the Commission has sought reports from district election officers of Ghaziabad, Prabuddha Nagar, Bijnore, Pilibhit, Moradabad , Saharanpur and Jyotiba Phule Nagar in this regard. The Commission has also asked the Income Department officials to probe into the matter and take actions under provisions for bribery. Surveillance teams and flying squads have recovered unaccounted money of about 78 lakh rupees from Basti, Kushinagar, Mau, Chandauli, Allahabad , and Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi districts. 14 persons have been detained.
