Poll preparations in all the five poll-bound states have gained momentum.In Assam, the leaders of different political parties are making last ditched effort to woo voters as the second and concluding phase of elections in the state will come to an end this afternoon at 3. In this phase, polling will be held in 64 constituencies in lower Assam area including, Bodo belt of the state. Leaders of the ruling Congress and those of opposition parties, including the BJP, Asom Gan Parishad ( AGP), AIUDF, NCP and Left parties, are making allegations and counter allegations on the point of development work of the state and infiltration from Bangladesh to neighbouring Assam.In Tamil Nadu, electioneering is reaching a crescendo as campaign would come to close on Monday. Leaders of various parties are on a campaign trail across the state, to woo the voter. Price rise, corruption, power cuts, demands for better infrastructure are some of the issues which are hotly debated in election rallies and among the people. AIR correspondent reports that though number of political parties are in the fray, the main battle is between the DMK led alliance and the AIADMK led front. In West Bengal, electioneering for the 54 Assembly seat of North Bengal has reached feverish pitch and big guns of various political parties have jumped into the electioneering in favour of their candidates. Election in three hill assembly seats of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong of the six seats in Darjeeling district assumed more significant. AIR Correspondent reports the fate of 38 candidates of various parties in six seats of Darjeeling district would be decided by over 13 lakh voters on 18th April on the first phase of polls.In Kerala, which will go for polls on April 13, top leaders of national parties are criss-crossing the state. BJP leaders Sushama Swaraj, Rajnath Singh and Venkiah Naidu, CPM leaders Prakash Karat, Sitarama Yechuri and Brinda Karat and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Union Minister Kapil Sibal are among those addressing public meetings at different places in the state.In Puducherry, big election rallies and public meetings are a rarity as political parties and candidates concentrate on door to door canvassing, to catch the attention of the voters. The state will go for polls on April 13. With the election authorities keeping a close watch on poll expenditure and violations of the model code of conduct, the festive atmosphere usually associated with elections is missing. AIR correspondent reports that voters possessing EPIC cards only will be allowed to vote. The Congress is leading a front comprising of the DMK, PMK and VCK while the NR Congress is heading an alliance with the AIADMK, DMDK and CPI and CPM as partners.
