In Jammu and Kashmir, campaigning for the first phase of assembly elections ended this evening. In this phase, fifteen assembly segments of the state are going to polls on Tuesday. This include all four assembly seats of Laddakh, five seats in Kashmir and six seats in Jammu region.
Campaigning for the first phase of poll for 13 Assembly seats in Jharkhand, also ended today. 199 candidates are in fray for the this phase, voting of which will take place on Tuesday 25th November. Out of total 3961 polling stations, 1751 are very sensitive, 1104 are sensitive and remaining 352 are normal .The Election Commission has made all the arrangement including deployment of large number of paramilitary and police forces to conduct the poll in peaceful atmosphere.
AIR correspondent reports that the first phase of poll in Jharkhand has seen high intensity campaign in which senior leaders of all political parties has addressed large number of rallies. BJP has carried it’s campaign on development and good governance, while JMM, Congress, RJD, JVM and JD(U) has mainly highlighted weaknesses of rivals while promising variety of their new schemes. What is interesting, though, is Congress, RJD, JD(U) and JMM are still alliance partners in 14 month old Hemant Soren government, but there is competition between the JMM and Congress to take credit and blame others.
Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, Army today received a major success by recovering a huge cache of arms from Keran sector near line of control in the frontier district of Kupwara. The arms recovered include 18 AK 47 rifiles, 32 AK magazines, 210 AK 47 rounds and five pistols and six pistol magazines. According to Army sources, the arms are believed to have been dumped by some militants in the forest area, who were trying to infiltrate into this side of territory.
However, alert army troops foiled their attempt and forced them to flee. While fleeing the militants left their arms which were recovered by the army troops during search operation today. The search operations are still going on in the area.
