The campaigning for fifth phase of assembly elections in West Bengal came to an end this afternoon. Polling for this phase will take place in 38 seats covering parts of West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan districts on Saturday. Prominent leaders of all major political parties criss-crossed the region throughout the day as a last ditch efforts to woo the voters. Over 74 lakhs 700 electorates will decide the political fate of 193 candidates. More than 9400 polling booths have been set up in four districts. The Election Commission appointed special observers Mr. Devashish Chakraborty today took stock of the situation at West Midnapur district. Our Kolkata correspondent Arijit Chakraborty reports that unprecedented security arrangements are in place to ensure free and fair voting. Two helicopters made an aerial survey at West Midnapur , Bankura and Purulia districts for air surveillance. Besdies, Director General of CRPF Mr. Vijay Kumar also reviewed the security situation at West Midnapur districts.
