Campaigning for 1st phase of UP Assembly polls at its peak

In Uttar Pradesh, the campaigning for first phase elections has attained a feverish pitch. The leaders of various political parties are addressing rallies in the areas to woo the voters. Meanwhile, filing of nomination is going on for fifth phase of state assembly elections. Our Correspondent reports that so far, 29 candidates have filed their papers for 49 assembly constituencies that are going to poll on 23rd of next month. BJP leader Uma Bharti filed her nomination from Charkhari and the expelled minister from ruling BSP Badshah Singh from Mahoba as a BJP candidate. 4th February is the last date for filing of nomination for the 5th phase. The scrutiny of nomination for third phase will take place tomorrow while the election in this phase will be held on the 15th of next month. The nomination process has already completed for first and second phases of election. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports, the Election commission has removed the district magistrate and police chief of Siddharthanagar district. The commission has also sought report from DIG and Commissioner of Basti division on dispute between commissioner and SP of Siddharthanagar. After visiting different constituencies in Baharaich, a bordering district with Nepal our correspondent has filed this report. In Baharaich, one hundred and seven candidates including 9 women are in fray. Political prestige of Congress, BSP, SP and BJP is on stake in this district. Delimitation process has also affected the district as two old assembly constituencies have lost their identity and three new have been emerged.Meanwhile, five FIRs have been lodged for violation of model code of conduct and lakhs of unaccountable rupees have been seized.
