In Uttar Pradesh, campaigning for the second phase of three tier local body polls comes to an end today evening. AIR Allahabad Correspondent reports that second phase of elections will be held on June 27. A total of 163 Local bodies spread over 17 districts and 5 Municipal Corporations of Agra, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Bareilly will go for poll in this phase. A total of 18363 candidates including 6690 women are in fray. Of them, 53 have been declared elected unopposed including Chairman for one Nagar Panchayat. Massive security arrangements have been made for peaceful and partial polling. The State Election Commission has deployed observers for each poll bound districts to ensure independent polling.First phase of elections was held on Sunday in which 63 percent polling was recorded. Maximum 74 percent voters have exercised their franchise in Saharanpur district followed by 71 percent in Meerut. Minimum 54 percent polling was recorded at Etawah, home town of ruling Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. Voting was by and large peaceful in all 104 Local Bodies spread over in 17 districts. 40 candidates have already been declared elected unopposed. A total of 16122 candidates are in fray for first phase of elections. Polling for Local Bodies Election at Lucknow was held one day earlier on June 23.
