Campaigning ends in naxal affected areas in Bihar polls

In Bihar, campaigning for the sixth and final phase of Assembly elections in naxal affected areas of the state came to an end this evening. No untoward incident was reported during campaigning. Twenty six Assembly constituencies will go to the polls in this phase on Saturday. AIR Patna correspondent reports that 18 constituencies are naxal affected where polling will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m . In remaining eight constituencies polling will be upto 5 p.m. State Director General of police Neelmani told AIR that adequate security plan has been put in place to deal with naxal threat. He said that every thing has been done to ensure that the Reds get no advantage during polls. Jawans of central para military forces will be deployed on all booths. Four BSF helicopters will be pressed into service to monitor activities of Maoists. States border along with Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand has already been sealed. A massive combing operation is continuing in naxal invested areas. 426 candidates are in the fray for the final phase of elections in the state. Stalwarts of different political parties, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, BJP President Nitin Gadkari, BSP President Ms. Mayawati, JD(U) President Sharad Yadav, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, LJP President Ram Vilas Paswan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi addressed a series of election meetings in different parts of the state. Leaders have started door to door campaign to garner support.
