Campaigning ends for penultimate phase of LS polls

Campaigning ended last evening for 64 Lok Sabha constituencies and 175 assembly segments in the Seemandhra region of Andhra Pradesh.

These constituencies are going to polls tomorrow in the 8th phase of Lok Sabha elections. Spread over 7 states, these Constituencies, include 25 in Andhra Pradesh, 15 in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Bihar, six in West Bengal, all five in Uttarakhand, all four in Himachal pradesh and two in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Uttar Pradesh, this round of elections will decide the fate of 243 candidates, including two scions of Nehru-Gandhi family, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and BJP national secretary Varun Gandhi.

In Bihar, elaborate security arrangements are being made to hold free, fair and peaceful voting in the seven seats in the state.

In Andhra Pradesh, about 3 crore 68 electors will exercise their franchise tomorrow at over 40 thousand polling stations across 13 districts of the Seemandhra region.

In Himachal Pradesh, the election department has made elaborate arrangements for nearly 48 lakh electorates in the state which includes the first voter of independent India, Shyam Saran Negi.
