Campaigning for October 15 Assembly elections ended in Maharashtra and Haryana today. In Maharashtra, senior BJP leader Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded BJP`s campaigning addressing three rallies at Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Mr. Modi said in Palghar this morning that it is his endeavour to make this newly set up district as the most developed in the state.
He said, if people get good rail network and youth get jobs nearby, then this area will develop. He also said that Ratnagiri and Sindhudurga districts have all the potential to develop for eco tourism.
Congress leader and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chaavan ended his campaigning addressing rally at his constituency in Satara district. He also conducted a road show in his constituency. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi had concluded their campaigning for party nominees.
Nationalist Congress party Chief Sharad Pawar concluded his party`s campaigning addressing a rally at his strong hold Baramati in Pune district and reiterated that a full fledged Defense Minister is essential at centre. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray today announced that his party will not contest Lok Sabha in future. Talking to media persons at Mumbai he also suggested that National Parties should also away from Assembly Elections in the States.
AIR correspondent reports that Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray concluded his party campaigning addressing three rallies in Dhule and Jalgaon districts. He said his party is committed for united Maharashtra. Road shows were organised in different parts of the State by several candidates of most of the major parties. Processions taken out in Mumbai today badly affected the road traffic in different areas.
Security across the state has been intensified and in flag March is being conducted to instill sense of security among electorates. Checking of vehicles has been increased and directions have been issued for strict implementation of model code of conduct.
Above 3 crore unaccounted money have been seized across the state till now and above 600 FIR have been lodged for violation of model code of conduct. In Thane district a FIR has been lodged against Shiv Sena candidate for allegedly distributing money to voters. About three lakhs rupees were seized from his supporters.
In Haryana, election campaigning for these assembly elections concluded this evening. Senior leaders of all political parties campaigned today and mainly focused on development issues and also pointed out the loopholes in governance of other parties. Prime Minister Narendera Modi took on the opposition over dynastic politics and corruption.
Congress, on the other hand, accused the Centre of being pro-rich and taking credit of all the work done by the UPA government. Rahul Gandhi took on Prime Minister Modi for not doing enough regarding Chinese infiltration and violation of ceasefire by Pakistan. Indian National Lok Dal Supremo Om Prakash Chautala's claim of taking oath as Chief Minister from jail, invited criticism from all parties.
Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader Prime Minister Narendera Modi campaigned extensively and addressed eleven public meetings during his four visits, while Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda mainly held the reins of campaigning in the State and Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi addressed total seven rallies during their two visits whearas Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati addressed 4 rallies during her two visits.
Despite the fact that Indian National Lok Dal's star campaigner Om Prakash Chautala had to surrender on cancellation of his bail and leave the campaigning mid-way but still he could manage rallies and several public meetings in all districts of the State, in his absence its alliance partner Shiromani Akali Dal s supremo and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Singh Badal with their senior leaders took over the campaigning for Indian National Lok Dal.
Bharatiya Janata Party made no qualms of the fact that they had an alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab and still let the father-son duo campaign for their staunch rival, Indian National Lok Dal in Haryana. With Regional parties namely Haryana Lokhit Party, CPI, Haryana Janhit Congress and its alliance partner Haryana Janchetna Party and some 603 independent candidates s extensive campaigning may change the political equation of the State.
