In Madhya Pradesh, campaigning for the assembly elections ended at 5 pm on Saturday. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that star campaigners of all the major political parties including union ministers Manish Tiwari, Rajeev Shukla, Narendra Modi and Sushma Swaraj campaigned in favour of their parties on Saturday.
Earlier Prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Senior BJP leader L. K. Advani, BJP president Rajnath Singh, BSP leader Mayawati, Samajwadi party leader Mulayam Singh, JD (U) president Sharad Yadav, chief ministers of Maharashtra, UttarPradesh, Chattisgarh and Haryana and several other senior leaders also participated in the campaigning in the state. Polling for all the 230 assembly segments of the state will be held on Monday.
AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that dry day has been declared from Saturday evening in the state till the end of polling.
Despite several election meetings of star campaigners, the campaigning lacked the usual fire this time due to the strict compliance of the model code of conduct.
Banners, posters, hoardings and convoys of vehicles were seen in very few numbers while ruckus of loudspeakers was also not heard generally.
Most of the candidates resorted to door to door meetings. Parties and candidates also used social media extensively.
Bitterness in the poll advertisements of two major political parties BJP and Congress was also witnessed for the first time in the state. Now candidates are busy in closed door meetings.
In Mizoram, the stage is set for the battle of political power with the ending of campaigning today for the forthcoming Assembly elections which go to polls on Monday.
The three forces, the ruling Congress, three-party combine, the Mizoram Democratic Alliance and Zoram Nationalist Party are in the fray. BJP has fielded 17 candidates and NCP will contest on two seats.
