Campaigning ends for 89 LS seats spread over 7 states & 2 UTs & 119 Assembly seats in AP; Polling tomorrow

Campaigning for the 7th phase of Lok Sabha elections ended last evening. 89 constituencies spread over 7 States and 2 Union Territories will go to polls in this phase tomorrow.

These are all 26 seats in Gujarat, 17 in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Punjab, 9 in West Bengal, 7 in Bihar and one each in Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

Prominent among them are Sonia Gandhi, Madhusudan Mistry, Capt. Amarinder Singh, Sriprakash Jaiswal and Shankarsinh Vaghela of Congress and Narendra Modi, LK Advani, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti of BJP. Other prominent candidates include Sharad Yadav of JDU and Farooq Abdullah of National Conference.

In Andhra Pradesh, the stage is all set for tomorrow's polling in the 17 lok Sabha and 119 Assembly constituencies of Telangana region.

State Chief Electoral officer Bhanwarlal told reporters that except in 11 Asembly constituencies, the polling will be held from 7AM to 6PM. Of the 11 constituencies, polling will be held from 7Am to 4PM in three Bhupalpalle, Bhadrachalam and Mulug and it will be from 7AM to 5 PM at seven remaining constituencies. Earlier polling was scheduled to be held till 4PM in these areas.

A total 265 candidates are in the contest in 17 Lok Sabha Constituencies while 1669 candidates are in the fray for 119 Assembly segments.
Elaborate arrangements have been made for tomorrows poling. About 2 crore 81 lakh electors will utilise their franchise tomorrow at 30,518 polling stations. Tight security arrangements have been made with deploying more than one lakh 40 thousand police forces and 162 companies of central and armed forces.
