Campaigning ends for 2nd phase of polling in North Eastern states & Arunachal Pradesh Assembly; Polling tomorrow

Campaigning for the 7 Lok Sabha seats of the North East and Assembly seats of Arunchal Pradesh ended last evening. The polling will be held tomorrow.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the stage is set for simultaneous voting for the two Lok Sabha seats and 49 seats of the 60-member State Assembly. Candidates of 11 assembly seats have already been elected unopposed.

Campaigning for the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency also ended last evening with political parties and candidates trying to woo the voters till the last minute. More than nine lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise tomorrow.

Peaceful polling was reported in the 5 Lok Sabha seats of Assam and one of Tripura, which went to the polls in the first phase yesterday. In Assam, about 75 per cent voting was reported, with Kaliabor constituency recording the highest of 80 per cent.

AIR correspondent reports, barring a few stray incidents, polling passed off peacefully in the five constituencies.

In Tripura, about 85 per cent of the people cast their votes in the West Tripura Constituency yesterday.
