Campaigning ends as Tamil Nadu heads for polls

After the campaigning came to an end last evening, poll officials are reaching the polling booths in Tamilnadu. DMK chief M Karunadnihi winded up his electioneering by addressing a public meeting in his home town and constituency Tiruvarur, While AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha also addressed rallies at several places in Chennai before the close the campaign. Meanwhile the Chief electoral officer of Tamilandu Praveen Kumar has clarified that any postponement or countermanding could be decided at any time by the commission if any violations are found during the polling process. The Chief Electoral officer has clarified after some T V channels carried a message quoting him that there would be not be any postponement of election programme on Wednesday. AIR correspondent says that beside state police, 240 companies of central para military forces are being deployed across the state for free and fair poll: Voters are eagerly waiting to express their opinion in tomorrow’s poll as anxious politicians are busy guessing voters decision. Election machinery is in full swing to conduct a poll in 234 assembly segments on Wednesday. Fifty thousand polling booths have been set up for four crore and fifty lakh voters. All the sensitive polling booths are going to be under surveillance of live camera since electronic voting machines are being placed on Tuesday. Ramps have also been created in all the polling booths to encourage physically challenged voters. The Election commission has reiterated that if any political party would be found bribing voters strict action would be taken against them. The Election department and police have seized over forty crore rupees unaccounted money during search operation. Now fate of 2748 candidates are going to be locked in electronic voting machines after Wednesday evening. The fortune of key players of state politics Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha will also be sealed in voting machines but all have to wait patiently for a month to know the verdict of people.
