Campaign reaches climax as UP polls approach

Campaigning for the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh has reached a feverish pitch with polling for the first phase is just 4 days away. In this phase 55 constituencies will go to the polls on next Wednesday.

Leaders from all political parties are making their last bid to woo the voters. Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi covered Varanasi, Siddhartanagar and Sant Kabir nagar districts asking people to vote for a change for development in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi continuously campaigned in Amethi and Raibarelli area. She addressed over a dozen corner meetings there.

Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav also addressed rallies in Banda and Chitrakoot emphasising his party's commitment for welfare schemes for poor, youth and women.

Chief Minster Mayawati also addressed meetings in Basti and Maharajganj districts claiming progress made in different fields despite difficulties.

BJP leaders L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi addressed several public meetings. Advani addressed public meetings in Deoria and Ayodhya raising the issues of corruption and black money in foreign banks.

Withdrawal of nominations for the 4th phase elections was over this evening. In this phase, 56 constituencies in 11 districts will go to the polls. Filling of nominations for phase five elections in 49 constituencies also ended today. Election in Uttar Pradesh are being organized in seven phases
