Campaign for phase 2 Assam polls ends today

In Assam, the leaders of different political parties are making last ditched effort to woo voters as the second and concluding phase of elections in the state will come to an end at three this afternoon. In this phase polling will be held in 64 constituencies in lower Assam area including Bodo belt of the state.Leaders of the ruling Congress in the state and those of opposition parties, including the BJP, Asom Gan Parishad ( AGP), AIUDF, NCP and Left parties are making allegations and counter allegations on development work and infiltration from Bangladesh to neighbouring Assam.AIR correspondent reports that a large number of female supporters of different parties have come out for campaigning.Meanwhile, in West Bengal, electioneering for the first phase of election to 54 Assembly seats in six districts of North Bengal is gaining momentum.Gorkha National Liberation Front, GNLF, Supremo Subhash Ghisingh returned to Darjeeling hills after almost three years. AIR Correspondent reports fate of 38 candidates, including three GNLF candidates in Darjeeling district, will be decided in the first phase polls slated for the 18th of this month.In Kerala, with only two days left for campaign to come to an end for Wednesday's Assembly poll, political parties are working on strategies to woo the undecided voters, who could take a key roll in electing the government.Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will be in Kerala today to address election rallies.AIR correspondent reports that development, price rise, corruption and local problems are the main issues in the election.In Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission has increased the number of flying squads to check the use of money power in the run up to the polls scheduled for the 13th of this month. Additional chief Electoral officer Mrs Amudha said that the number of flying squads is being increased from the present one to five per constituency.In Puducherry, which will go to polls on April 13, campaigning has reached its peak. Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee and DMK leader Karunanidhi will address separate election rallies in support of Congress-DMK alliance candidates today.
