In Goa, after completion of the two-week long electoral campaign for the State Assembly polls slated on March 3 last evening, the Election Commission is also gearing up for the poll preparations so as to ensure free and fair polling all over the stateThe Election Commission has prepared to make use of innovative Poll Monitoring System (PMS) in all the 40 Assembly Constituencies of Goa for the ensuing polls slated on March 3. This would be the first such occasion in the electoral history of the country. The composition of the electorate indicates that the total number of voters is 10, 25, 472 which also includes 5, 14, 939 women and their number is slightly more than men. Also, the young voters constitute around twenty three per cent of the total electorate who are belonging to the age group of below thirty years. In all, 1, 612 polling stations are being commissioned in the state of which 114 stations have been rendered as critical and 66 stations have been identified as vulnerable. For ensuring the free and fair polling 10, 644 poll personnel have been deputed and 3, 526 security personnel have been deployed along with 35 companies of Central Reserve Police Force and 12 companies of the Maharashtra Home Guards.The Election Commission has already issued the photo-identity cards to all the voters. In addition, the eligible voters all over the state have been given Voters’ Slips. Now, it would be mandatory for the voters to bring along either the photo-identity cards issued by the Election Commission or the Voters’ Slips at the time of voting. Any other kind of identification documents would not be taken as the valid proof of identity of the concerned voter as per the instructions of the Election Commission.The main contest in the Goa Assembly Elections would be between the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party and Maharshtrawadi Gomantak Party combine. There are 215 candidates in fray for total 40 seats locked mostly in the multi-cornered contests including 74 independents and nine women.
