In Goa, the election campaign for the State Assembly polls slated for Saturday came to an end this evening. The election rallies of the prominent leaders of various political parties were held in different constituencies.Candidates belonging to various political parties and independents concentrated on contacting the voters personally through door to door campaigns, rallies and road shows on the final day of the campaign.The main contest in the Goa Assembly Elections would be between the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party and Maharshtrawadi Gomantak Party combine. There are 215 candidates in fray for total 40 seats locked mostly in the multi-cornered contests including 74 independents and nine women.Meanwhile, the Election Commission is also gearing up for the poll preparations so as to ensure free and fair polling all over the state. The Commission has decided to make use of innovative Poll Monitoring System (PMS) in all the 40 Assembly Constituencies of Goa for the ensuing polls slated on March 3. This would be the first such occasion in the electoral history of the country.Under the system, finger prints of the voters would be recorded by finger print reading machines along with their photographs by the web cameras fitted to computers. All the 1, 612 polling stations in the state have been networked to the Central Server from where poll officials would be able to monitor the polling process in each and every polling station in the state.
