Campaign for 3rd phase of polling ends in Maharashtra

Campaign for the third phase of polling in 19 constituencies Maharashtra came to an end today. Over 3.18 crore voters will vote on Thursday to be seal the political fortune of 338 candidates. Of them, 149 are independents and 26 women.

The constituencies which will be witnessing polls that day are: Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Raver,Dindori, Nashik in North Maharashtra, Jalna, Aurangabad in Marathwada, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane in Thane district, Mumbai North, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai South and Mumbai North East in Mumbai and Raigad in Konkan.

Prominent candidates include state PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal from Nashik, State Water Resources minister Sunil Tatkare from Raigad, Union Minister for telecom Milind Deora from Mumbai South and CWC member AICC general secretary Gurudas Kamat from Mumbai North West.

All six constituencies in Mumbai which go to polls on Thursday are set to witness either triangular or four-cornered contests with Congress-NCP going all out to retain their bastions against the opposition onslaught.

As many as 116 candidates are in fray for the six constituencies, which are currently held by the Congress-NCP.
