California succeeds in containing fire caused by gas explosion near San Francisco airport

Officials in California say they have completely contained a fire which was caused by a gas explosion near San Francisco's international airport. At least four people were killed and dozens were injured after gas pipeline exploded. More than three dozen homes were destroyed and more than hundred damaged when an underground gas pipe raptured and exploded in a residential neighbourhood. Witnesses said it blew a fireball 1,000 feet into the air and flames raised for hours engulfing more and more properties in the town of San Bruno. An investigations now underway into how and when the pipe ruptured. Some locals said they have complaint about a smell of gas in the proceeding weeks. Meanwhile authorities say the energy company that owns the pipe will pay for temporary housing for the hundreds affected.
