In the United States, the death toll from a fire that tore through a California warehouse during a rave party has gone up to 33 as firefighters combed through rubble for others believed to be still missing. Alameda County Sheriff's Sergeant Ray Kelly said only a fraction of the charred remains of the partly collapsed structure has been searched, and crews clearing debris are expected to find more bodies as they advance.

The building known as the "Ghost Ship" had been used by artists as a living and work space but had no license for such use, officials said. As many as 100 people were there for a party Friday night when the fire broke out just before midnight. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze. They said clutter fueled the flames and there were no sprinklers inside and few exits to escape.
