Calcutta HC stays formation of SIT in Sandeshkhali incident

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">The Calcutta High Court division bench has put an interim stay on the order for forming a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the Sandeshkhali incident.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Earlier Justice Joy Sengupta of Calcutta High Court had ordered to form a SIT which would be headed by two SP ranked officers from Central Bureau of Investigation CBI and West Bengal Police.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Enforcement Directorate ED has challenged the single judge order at the division bench. Today, division bench of Chief Justice T S Shivagyanam and Justice Supratim Bhattacharya has given the order.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">The division bench has also heard a petition submitted by the state government today related to the case. The division bench has also ordered that West Bengal police can not investigate any FIR related to the Sandeshkhali incident. The next hearing is on 6th March when the court will hear both parties.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">On 5th January, ED team was attacked and some of the officials were badly injured by the followers of Sahajahan Sheikh at Sandeshkhali of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The team had gone to raid the house of Sheikh Shahjahan in relation to PDS scam. Shahjahan is a local heavyweight leader of ruling Trinamool Congress and Karmadhyakshya of Zila Parishad. He is still at large though FIR had been registered against him.</span></p>
