Calcutta HC acquits Asian Games Gold medalist Pinki Pramanik

The Calcutta High Court has acquitted Asian Games Gold medalist Pinki Pramanik of all charges including rape and assault leveled against her by her live-in partner two years ago. Expressing happiness over the judgment delivered Friday, Pinki sought punishment for the complainant for making false allegations and tarnishing her image. The former middle distance runner was accused by her live-in partner Anamika Acharya of being a male and raping her that led to Pinki's arrest in June 2012. Pinki was charge-sheeted by Police the same year. The charge sheet cited the opinion of a 7-member medical board constituted to confirm the athlete's gender in June 2012. Pinki, who retired from athletics in 2009, won gold in the 4×400 metre relay at Doha Asian Games in 2006. An employee of Eastern Railway, she also won Silver medal at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games the same year.
