Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today assured stringent action will be taken against erring officials involved in lapses detected by the CAG in the farm loan waiver scheme. Intervening in the debate on the matter in the Rajya Sabha, he said the matter will first be examined by the parliament’s Public Accounts Committee. Earlier, raising the issue, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad demanded what action has been taken since the RBI directed the concerned scheduled banks in January this year to initiate recovery of dues and take action against culpable officials within fifteen days. As Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged this has taken the dimensions of a scam, BJP members trooped into the well raising slogans. Deputy Chairperson Prof. PJ Kurien adjourned the house for ten minutes. The Rajya Sabha has since resumed its sitting and the proceedings were going smoothly
