The report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India – CAG – on Common Wealth Games was tabled in the Lok Sabha today. It leveled allegations against Delhi Chief Minister accusing her of irregularities and overspending in the games.The report says Delhi government committed lapses and irregularities in the bidding process and blamed several ministries and various agencies including the DDA, MCD, NDMC and PWD for the entire mess. It observed several instances of wasteful expenditure by the Delhi government and civic agencies amounting to the tune of over 100 crores rupees over street scapping and an excess expenditure of over 31 crores on street lighting by MCD, NDMC and PWD. Addressing the media, CAG's Deputy Rekha Gupta said contract management was highly irregular with numerous instances of single tendering, with contracts awarded to ineligible vendors.The report, also points a finger of suspicion at Organizing Committee of the Games headed by Suresh Kalmadi, now in jail. It alleged that Kalmadi had favoured many companies. The report said the Prime Minister's Office named Kalmadi for appointing as Committee's chief despite objections from the then sports Minister Late Sunil Dutt.Reacting to the CAG report about Common Wealth Games, Delhi Chief Minister Sheela Dixit said that her government will fully co operate with Public Accounts Committee, when the report goes to it. On the charges leveled in the report, Dixit told reporters that her government has not got the copy of the report yet. Dixit was speaking to media after an unscheduled meeting of the cabinet.Government says, all those involved in Commonwealth Games Scam will not be spared. Briefing reporters outside Parliament, Union Sports Minister Ajay Makan CBI and other investigating agencies will register fresh cases against those indicted in the CAG report if required.BJP has demanded the resignation of the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over her alleged involvement in the Commonwealth Games Scam. Party Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the CAG has indicted her for financial irregularities in organizing Games.
