CAG finds loopholes in MDM Scheme in Telangana, AP

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India has found several misappropriations in implementing the Midday Meal Scheme in Schools and Sakshar Bharat Programme in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.<br/><br/> The CAG reports for the year ending March 2015 have been presented in the respective State Legislature Assembly today. The CAG pointed out that the number of students benefiting under the Midday Meal Scheme has been exaggerated at several places and funds were not fully utilized in the two states. <br/><br/>Stating that the guidelines have not been fully followed, the CAG found fault with the state Governments for not providing Midday Meal during summer holidays especially in drought areas. The CAG also pointed out that nearly 40 per cent schools not having infrastructure to cook food and distribute to the children. <br/><br/>The CAG also pointed out at unaccounted bills, excess drawing of crores of rupees towards transport of food material and preserving lakhs of tons of food grains without taking it to the Centre's notice.
