CAG dismisses ex-colleague’s figure on 2G spectrum loss

Comptroller and Auditor General, CAG, Vinod Rai today appeared before the Joint Parliamentary Committee and dismissed claims by a former colleague that actual loss of revenue due to 2G spectrum allocation was only 2,645 crore rupees.

He said various estimates up to 4.19 lakh crore rupees were projected during the audit process.

Mr.Rai appeared before JPC a day after R P Singh, an ex-Director General, Audit (Post and Telecommunications) and lead auditor of the 2G audit report.

Mr. R. P. Singh claimed that the presumptive loss of 1.76 lakh crore rupees due to 2G spectrum allocations was a mathematical guess.

JPC Chairman P C Chacko told reporters after the meeting that according to the CAG, DG (P&T) had given some other loss estimates in his draft report of 1,02,498 crore rupees and 65,000 crore rupees on account of 2G spectrum allocation and the earlier figure was included in the final report.
