The BJP today demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation over the CAG report on the alleged irrregularities in the allocation of coal blocks. At a press conference in New Delhi, the leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha ,Mrs Sushma Swaraj said that Dr Singh was responsible for the loss because he held the portfolio of Coal at the relevant time when the bidding norms were not followed. She said that the CAG has reported a loss of around one lakh eighty six thousand crore rupees to the public exchequer because of the delay in notifying the competitive bidding process in allocating coal blocks.
The leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Arun Jaitley said, by not following the competitive bidding process, the private players were allowed to have a windfall.
