The Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai today briefed the Public Accounts Committee about his report in the 2G spectrum allocation. CAG report of 1.76 lakh crore Rupees presumptive loss to the exchequer in the 2G spectrum allocation led to stalling of the entire Winter Session of Parliament with Opposition pressing for a JPC Probe. The CAG deposition before the Parliamentary Panel came on a day when the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh has written to the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi that he is ready to appear before the panel. Official sources said Dr. Singh made the offer in his letter to PAC Chairman after his announcement on the last day of the Congress Plenary Session in New Delhi last week. The PAC will continue with its examination of the controversial allocation of 2G radio waves. The Committee has already obtained some information from the Department of Telecommunications, the Finance Ministry, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and experts in the telecom sector. According to a Lok Sabha Secretariat notification, the PAC had also sought views from the general public.
