Cabinet to discuss National Food Security Bill on Tuesday

Cabinet will take up National Food Security Bill for discussion and approval in its meeting scheduled tomorrow. This was stated by Food and Public Distribution Minister K V Thomas while talking to reporters outside Parliament today. He said that the bill is likely to be introduced in this session of Parliament.

Mr. Thomas said that government is taking effective measures to modernise the Public distribution System and increasing the food grain storage capacity in the country. He expressed hope that food subsidy will be increased to 95 thousand crore rupees from current 63 thousand crore rupees.

The bill aims to cover about half of the Urban population and about two third of the rural population for the entitled food grains.
