Cabinet raises cap on subsidised LPG cylinders;EC grants no objection to proposal

The government has raised the cap on supply of subsidised LPG cylinders per house hold to nine cylinders from six per year. It has also allowed oil companies to hike diesel prices by a small quantum periodically.

Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily told reporters in New Delhi after a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs that there will be no change in LPG and kerosene rates.

Consumers will get a quota of five subsidised cylinders between September 2012 and March 2013 and from April 1, 2013, they will be entitled to nine cylinders, a year.

Moily also said that the oil companies have been permitted to raise diesel prices by a small quantum periodically till such time that they are able to cover 9 rupees 60 paise per litre loss they incur on the fuel.

The Union Cabinet also approved a 50 per cent reduction in the reserve price of 800 Mgz band CDMA spectrum. It will be put to auction in March this year.

The Cabinet also decided to recommend to President Pranab Mukherjee to impose central rule in Jharkhand, where Chief Minister Arjun Munda has resigned after his government was reduced to a minority.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved to defreeze the tariff values on imported edible oils and notify their tariff values on the basis of their prevailing international prices.

This will provide level playing field to the domestic refining industry. The Committee also approved alinging National Investfund operation to boost disinvestment policy.It also approved the continuation of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission to sanction new projects and capacity building activities till 31st March this year.

This will be taken up under Urban Infrastructure and Governance and Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns components of the mission.

The Union Cabinet gave its nod for the transfer of 245.35 sq.mtr. of Government land in possession of the National Thermal Power Station of the National Thermal Power Corporation to the Public Works Department of Government of NCT of Delhi.

A non-Plan loan assistance of over 3300 crore rupees has also been approved for Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi for making payment to four Central Public Sector Undertakings and the Railways.

Delhi Electric Supply Undertaking period dues amounting to over 9400 crore rupees in Badarpur Thermal Power Station will be written of.
