Cabinet panel nod to coastal security plan phase-II

Cabinet Commitee on Security has approved Phase-II of the coastal security scheme to strengthen security along the country's coast line. The CCS, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, cleared the proposal of the Home Ministry for implementing it from April next year. Official sources said the Centre would provide assistance to coastal states to set up additional police stations along the coast, purchase of high-speed boats and recruit security personnel and for procuring modern gadgets. AIR correspondent says that the Phase-I of the scheme included setting up of 73 coastal police stations, 97 check posts and 58 outposts besides addition of over 200 boats and 153 jeeps to the fleet.
