Cabinet nod to enhance grant of compensation to civilian victims

Cabinet has enhanced the compensation to victims of terror and left extremism from three lakh rupees to five lakh. <br/><br/>Minister of state in Prime Minister's office Jitendra Singh said for the first time, civilian victims of cross border firing along the Indo-Pak border will be given a compensation of five lakh rupees similar to those who die due to terrorism or Naxal violence. <br/><br/>He said, now onwards, any civilian who dies anywhere in the country due to terror attack, naxal violence, firing from across the border and IED explosion will be given 5 lakh rupees as compensation uniformly. <br/><br/>The amount will be given to the next of kin of the victim. The Minister said, five lakh will also be given to those who receive 50 per cent or more disability or incapacitation due to the same reasons.

Cabinet has given its approval to enhance the grant of compensation to the civilian victims from three lakh rupees to five lakh rupees.<br/><br/>According to an official release, for the first time, civilian victims of cross border firing along the Indo-Pak border will be given a compensation of five lakh rupees similar to those who die due to terrorism or Left Wing Extremism violence. The amount will be given to the next of kin of the victim. Five lakh rupees will also be given to those who receive 50 per cent or more disability or incapacitation due to the same reasons. <br/><br/>The compensation amount will be given subject to the condition that no employment has been provided to any of the family members of the victims by state or central Government. <br/><br/>Till now the next of kin of persons killed or civilians who suffered permanent incapacitation as a result of such violence were paid three lakh rupees. The government has disbursed 35.89 crore rupees till now as compensation to civilian victims since inception of the scheme in 2008.
