Cabinet mulls bonus to the paddy growers

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has said that Union Cabinet will take a decision on bonus to the paddy growers for the current season within a week. Addressing a press conference at Chandigarh he said that this matter is under consideration of the cabinet. <br/>He said that decision about MSP of wheat will also be taken with in few days. He complimented the Punjab farmers for coming up with bumper paddy harvest despite the drought which affected the entire country. Mr Pawar said that Punjab is expected to contribute 85 lakh tonnes rice to the Central Food Pool despite the drought. Last year the state had contributed 80 lakh tonnes. <br/>The Union Minister said that the government has sufficient buffer grain stocks and there would be no problem of distribution under PDS. Earlier Mr. Pawar visited the grain markets of Rajpura and Khanna in the state to take a first hand information about paddy procurement.Meanwhile 65lakh ton paddy has been procured in the state till now.<br/><br/>
