The Union Cabinet has given its assent to Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill, 2013. The bill seeks to give wakf properties the status of public premises and make unauthorised occupation of waqf land a criminal offence. The proposed legislation will be highly beneficial for the entire Muslim community as it will provide a perfect mechanism for protection of the waqf properties from encroachment.
The Cabinet approved amendments in the Central List of Other Backward Classes for 13 States and three Union Territories. The changes will be made on the advice of the National Commission for Backward Classes. An official release said, the proposed changes will enable people belonging to backward castes and communities to avail benefits of reservation in government jobs and Central educational institutions.
The Cabinet also gave its nod to allow Telecommunications Consultants India Limited, TCIL, to fill up posts by deputation of Group A officers of the Department of Telecom and other ministries for three more years from 1st of October last year.
In another decision, the Cabinet approved the recommendations of the Group of Ministers, GoM, on uniformity of tenure, retirement age, re-appontiment, pension, salary and allowances for chairpersons and members of Tribunals and other quasi-judicial bodies set up through central legislations.
Second phase of Bangalore Metro Rail Project has also been approved by the Cabinet to improve public transport system and provide additional public transport infrastructure in the city .
