Cabinet gives approval to SAMPADA scheme for food processing

Union Cabinet today gave its approval to a new scheme SAMPADA for food processing sector to integrate current and new schemes aimed at reducing food wastage and doubling farmers' income. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the 'Scheme for Agro-Marine Produce Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters (SAMPADA) will be implemented at an outlay of six thousand crore rupees by 2019-20. The Minister said, it will include ongoing schemes like mega food parks and cold chain projects. <br/><br/>The scheme is aimed at boosting food processing sector as part of its objective to bring down post harvest losses preferably to zero level, provide quality food to consumers at cheaper price and for doubling of farmers' income.
