The FDI retail issue came up for discussion in Cabinet meeting on wednesday evening. Top official sources said that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh explained the rationale behind the decision to suspend the FDI in multi brand retail. Government announced in Parliament earlier in the day, to put this decision on hold till a consensus is evolved on the issue. The sharp difference of opinion on allowing 51 per cent in the multi-brand retail led to the stalemate in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha last week.
