In Chhattisgarh, the Cabinet sub-committee on internalsecurity will sit later today to discuss the latest strategy on theissue of the Collector's abduction by the Maoists. This Committee has been recently formed by the state government to look into all possible ways to secure the release of the abducted Sukma District Collector, Alex Paul Menon. The sub-committee will also have a deliberation with both the government mediators, Mrs. Nirmala Buch and Mr. S.K.Mishra, both retired IAS officers, before the talks begin. This was disclosed by the Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh to the press persons today. Speaking about the proposed talks with the Maoists’ mediators, Dr. Singh said that the government is fully ready for the occasion.The Maoists, on their part, have given the name of Prof. Hargopal as their second interlocutor in an sms to the media last night. The message carries the name of Vijay Madkam from CPI (Maoist). This development has come shortly after two of the three mediators namely, Prasant Bhusan and Manish Kunjam refused the offer. The other mediator on behalf of the Maoists would be B.D.Sharma, a former collector of Bastar in Chhattisgharh. Prof. Hargopal has already, in the recent past, acted as the Maoists’ interlocutor in the talks with the government of Orissa for the release of the then Malkangiri district collector V. Krishna. Meanwhile, Mr. Manish Kunjam, President of the All India Adivasi Mahasabha has been sent alongwith the required medicines for the ailing Mr. Menon.
