The cabinet Committee on Unique Identification Authority of India has given in principle approval for the adoption of approach for collection of demographic and biometrics attribute of the residents. <br/><br/>This includes all the finger prints and IRIS, the coloured disc inside the eye. It was also decided to include the data of IRIS of children in the age group of five to 15 years. <br/><br/>Briefing media on the decision taken, the Chairman of UIDAI, Nandan Nilekhani said that the first set of UID numbers will be issued between August this year and February next year. He said there after 600 million UID numbers will be issued in the next five years. <br/><br/>A draft legislation will also be put in public domain soon. Among the various stack holders are National Population Exercise, NAREGA, Public Distribution System and the Banks.<br/><br/>NRGEA and the Public Distribution system are among the major stake holders of this unique project which will go a long way in ensuing that the benefits of such schemes reach the targeted section of society. <br/><br/>The priority therefore will be to provide Unique identity number to the marginalised people and those who do not have any identity card.<br/><br/>A special drive will be taken to provide the members to the homeless with the help of NGOs. Among other projects that could be tied up with UID are banks and PAN cards.<br/><br/>The first of the twelve digit unique identity number will be out in August in the largest ever exercise of this kind in the world <br/>
