The Congress today justified the decision of the government for promulgating an ordinance to implement the National Food Security Bill.
Briefing reporters in Delhi, the Party Spokesperson, Ajay Maken said that the UPA government has taken the decision to bring the ordinance in the larger public interest as no consensus could be evolved among the political parties.
He said the government is well within its right to promulgate an ordinance when parliament is not in session.
Mr. Maken however said government is not running away from parliament as the Ordinance has to be confirmed within the stipulated time by the parliament.
Meanwhile, BJP criticized the decision saying that the Bill was not discussed in parliament.
Talking to AIR, partry General Secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the decision has been taken in the view of elections and to mislead the people.
