Cabinet clears ordinance to effectively deal with violence against women

The Union Cabinet today recommended to the President to issue an ordinance to deal effectively with the crime against women. An official spokesperson said in New Delhi that the Cabinet recommended for issuance of an ordinance on amending the criminal law.

The ordinance is based on the recommendations of the Justice Verma committee report. The committee was set up by the government in the wake of Delhi gang rape case.The committee submitted its report recently suggesting ways to deal with crime against women. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had assured that the government will take speedy action to implement the recommendations of the report.
