The Union Cabinet has approved the
introduction of Amendments to the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 in Parliament. These amendments seek to ensure more effective protection against indecent representation of women by covering newer forms of communication like internet, multimedia messaging, other than print and audio-visual media. This would aid in addressing the problem of increased objectification of women thereby ensuring dignity of women. The Cabinet meeting chaired by Dr Manmohan Singh in New Delhi, gave its nod to these amendments including enhancement of panelties and imprisonment.
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA today approved the modifications in procedure of releasing fertilizer subsidies. Briefing the media persons, official spokesperson said that the government will introduce IT enabled mobile fertilizer monitoring system. The move will contain corruption and enhance transparency in the transactions.
The CCEA also approved to continue the cost sharing pattern between the centre and state governments and UTs in the ratio of 75 to 25 during the current year for setting up 6,000 model schools at block level. One thousand eighty crore rupees have been allocated for the scheme in this fiscal.
