Cabinet approves SC/STs reservation in Lok Sabha, state assemblies for another 10 years

The Union Cabinet yesterday approved a proposal to extend reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies for another 10 years. The reservation for these categories in the lower House of Parliament and the State Assemblies was to expire on 25th January next year.<br />''<span style="color: #222222;"><br />''Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said there are 84 members from the Scheduled Caste and 47 from the Scheduled Tribe communities in Parliament. In state assemblies across India, there are 614 SC members and 554 ST members. </span><br />

The bill has provision for conversion of three Sanskrit Deemed to be Universities into Central Universities.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The Cabinet also approved land monetization at Pragati Maidan to build a five-star hotel. ITPO will undertake the mega project to redevelop Pragati Maidan into a world class International Exhibition and Convention Centre. It also approved The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Bill seeks to amend the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act, 2007.</span><br />
