<br/>The cabinet today approved a proposal to introduce a bill in Parliament for the prevention of torture. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, the information and broadcasting minister, Mrs Ambika Soni said this is a step towards ratification of the convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of punishment adopted by the UN General Assembly. <br/><br/>Our correspondent adds after detailed debliberations on the issue the government decided to bring in the legislation. In yet another decision the cabinet approved the proposal to enhance resource outlay of the government and United Nations Development programme for disaster risk management programme from 34 to 41 million US dollars. <br/><br/>It also approved the proposal to extend the term of economically backward classes upto 31st of July this year.<br/>
