The Union Cabinet today approved inclusion of the names of some castes and communities in the Central list of other backward classes (OBC). These castes and communities belong to 14 states and two union territories. They are Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry. An official press release says that the National Commission for Backward Classes had advised the Centre for amendment in the list.The Cabinet also approved a payment security scheme to ensure financial closure of projects under the phase-I of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. It extended the gross budgetary support to the Mission to the tune of 486 crore rupees. The scheme will facilitate setting up of 1,000 MW grid connected Solar Power Projects to achieve targets of the mission.
