Cabinet approves EC's proposal to buy new EVMs

The Election Commission's proposal to purchase new Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) which costs over one thousand crore rupees, has been approved by the Union Cabinet yesterday.<br/><br/>The approval was given to purchase 4 lakh 10 Thousand Ballot Units and 3 lakh 14 thousand Control Units during 2017-18 and over 4 lakh 35 thousand Ballot Units and over 71 thousand control units during 2018-19. <br/><br/>This will facilitate phasing out of obsolete electronic voting machines and will enable the Election Commission to replenish the stock to meet the requirement of conducting General Elections to Lok Sabha and some of the State Assemblies due in 2019.<br/><br/>
