Cabinet approves bill to improve road safety

Union Cabinet today gave its approval to Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016 to improve road safety in the country. The bill proposes to increase penalties against traffic violations to as deterrent measure. <br/><br/>It also has stricter provisions for offences like juvenile driving, drunken driving and driving without licence. An official release said, compensation for hit-and-run cases has been hiked from 25,000 rupees to two lakh rupees and in case of fatality it will up to 10 lakh rupees. <br/><br/>Driving without insurance will attract 2,000 rupees fine and/or imprisonment, two thousand rupees fine and licence suspension for helmet-less driving. <br/><br/>Besides, for drunken driving steep penalty of up to 10,000 rupees has been proposed. Our correspondent reports that every year 5 lakh road accidents are reported in the country in which 1.5 lakh people lose their lives.<br/><br/>Cabinet also gave its approval for signing of new Air Services Agreement between India and Lao People's Democratic Republic. An official release said, the agreement is expected to spur greater trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries. <br/><br/>It will provide enabling environment for enhanced and seamless connectivity while providing commercial opportunities to the carriers of both the sides ensuring greater safety and security

Union Cabinet today gave its approval to Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016 to improve road safety in the country. The bill proposes to increase penalties against traffic violations to as deterrent measure. <br/><br/>It also has stricter provisions for offences like juvenile driving, drunken driving and driving without licence. Cabinet also approved rates for Spectrum Usage Charge for various bands for which auctions are going to be conducted shortly. <br/><br/>In an another decision, the Cabinet gave its nod for amending Central List of OBCs for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as advised by National Commission for Backward Classes. It will make 35 changes in the OBC list of Andhra Pradesh and add 86 new entries in Telangana. <br/><br/>The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA today approved upgradation of 13 existing government Medical Colleges and Institutes under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. <br/><br/>The upgradation will involve an expenditure of 200 crore rupees for each government Medical College and Institute. The total upgradation cost will be Rs 2,600 crore, out of which Central share will be 1,560 crore rupees and States Rs 1,040 crore .
