Cabinet approves bill for setting up educational tribunals

The Cabinet gave its nod for the proposed bill which provides for setting up of Educational Tribunals to expediosly adjudicate on disputes related to higher education institutions . Under the provisions of the Educational Tribunals Bill 2010, a two tier structure of the tribunals is proposed to be set up at the national and state levels. These tribunals will act as forums for fast track, speedy and effective resolution of matters concerning teachers , students and employees of institution of higher education. The bill also has the provision for imprisonment up to three years or fine of ten lakh rupees or both to those who fail to comply with the orders of the tribunals. The bill introduced in the Lok Sabha earlier was referred to the concerned parliamentary standing committee for its scrutiny. Our correspondent says that an urgent need was felt to set up a mechanism for speedy resolution of disputes in view of increassing litigation involving students , teachers, employees and management of higher educational institutions and universities.
