The Cabinet has approved amendment to the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1971 to facilitate smooth and speedy eviction of unauthorised occupants from government accommodation.<br/><br/>The amendment will enable the Estate officer to apply summary proceedings for evicting unauthorised occupants from residential accommodations allotted for a period the person holds office. <br/><br/>Non- eviction of such residences leads to unavailability of houses to new incumbents. Under the existing provisions of the Act, the eviction proceedings take unusually long time, thereby reducing the availability of government accommodations to new incumbents.
