Cabinet approves 350 crore rupees scheme to address climate change impact

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its nod for implementing a new scheme to address the impact of climate change on agriculture and allied sectors. The three hundred fifty crore rupee scheme, a National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture will directly benefit one lakh farmers through on- farm demonstration of climate resilient technologies. These demonstrations will be carried out in 100 districts in 27 States. The long term strategic research will help in evolving technologies to cope with the climate change impact that will be used by millions of farmers across the country. AIR correspondent says that the new scheme comes in the wake of the threats of climate change on growth and sustainability of the agriculture sector in the country.The government has also increased the Minimum Support Price, MSP for Milling and Ball Copra 75 rupees per quintal for the current season for the current year. This is over and above the MSP announced by the government last season. The capital subsidy on investment under the industrial packages for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSME in Jammu and Kashmir has been doubled from 15 to 30 per cent to be at par with North East region. The Cabinet on Wednesday gave its green signal for modification in the Central capital Investment Subsidy Schemes in this regard. The scheme is part of the industrial packages announced for Jammu and Kashmir in 2002 and North East region in 2007 for boosting industrialisation in these States.
